Day at Sea - Formal Night and Captain’s Welcome Aboard Party

Like usual we are not doing formal wear.  We do dress smart casual and we feel comfortable.  I no longer let what people wear bother me.  It is everyone’s trip and they can do what they want.  I do agree that people should adhere to the dress code if they wish to dine in the dining rooms though.

This cruise is no different than many we have been on in the past few years.  There is a whole array of dress.  From very very casual to very very formal.  In fact I saw one woman in a very stunning dress that looked more like a ball gown that I am sure cost a heck of a lot of money and probably took a whole suitcase to pack.  She looked lovely!  A bit too much for me but I do appreciate the look.

It really is all about “your” vacation and what you wish to do.  There are tons of venues to attend if you do not wish to dress up.

The Patter states “Formal – when formal nights are held, please observe the suggested dress code in the Traditional Dining and Anytime Dining venues for he enjoyment of all our guests.”

We are dressed and out of the cabin at 6 pm and decide to head to Vines for some wine.  We enjoy a bottle of Pacific Bay and watch all the people.

Again I love Vines, but this Vines does not have very comfortable seating.  We end up taking two seats at the bar as sitting at the barrel table is just to difficult in a dress.
It is the Captain’s Welcome Aboard Party.  The champagne waterfall is set up in the Atrium and the Captain is walking around shaking hands with everyone.  What a great Captain.  He is always out and about mingling with the passengers.

In fact the Captain even helped pour some champagne on top of the waterfall!

Champagne is being served.  It is a lovely atmosphere.  Although I do have to say it is not as grand as it use to be.

They use to serve canapes and the place use to be packed.  Many more officers would mix and mingle and it was a special time.  But I guess like many things, things change with the time.  It is much more casual now.  Whether that is a good or bad, who knows but personally I am ready for something different.

We duck out just prior to the introduction of the officers to go to dinner before it gets crazy.

It is now around 9 pm and we are wandering.  There is a lot going on but we just don’t feel like doing anything.

The Production Show Fantastic Journey is being shown in the Princess Theater and we would like to see it but we think we will check it out another sailing.

The Yes/No Game show is also happening and I love that show but Bernie finds it boring so I don’t want to drag him.

Jon Jones is a great performer playing his guitar and singing and we sit and enjoy that for a bit.  AJ Clark is the piano player who starts right after Jon and we decide to call it an early night.

We head back to the cabin and watch a movie.
One thing I noticed is the tv on demand does not have a music stations like the Royal has.

Other things happening tonight are:  Photo Opportunity throughout the ship, LGBT Get Together, Charme Duo is playing dancing music in the Wheelhouse, Singles and Solo Get Together, Movie Avengers: Infinity War is at Muts, What the Heck Trivia, Family Karaoke Hour, Duo Dream is performing in the Atrium, Teens Rock the Boat Party, Yes/No Game Show, Karaoke Roulette, 90’s Power Hour in the disco and much more.

Giggle for the day:  some passengers were chatting with a head waiter when they asked him “do you ever get a day off” his response was priceless “we don’t get a day off but a few hours each day, but if we could talk all the passengers into not eating for one day we could get a day off” of course he was just joking around.  Everyone laughed.
