Thursday - Day in Fort Lauderdale

Bea Damn felt left out so here she is everyone!

We wake and for a second I have to figure out exactly where we are?  Oh yeah - Fort Lauderdale.

I couldn't find my glasses tonight and then it dawned on me, I left them at the hairdressers at Sawgrass.  I called them and sure enough, yup I left them there.  So a quick trip back to the mall to pick them up.  Thankfully I remembered and I still don't know how I left them there and did not realize I had left them there.  Either my eyes are getting better or I did not try to read anything.  I hate getting older.

We then are heading closer to the port area to visit Ultimate Nail Salon on 17th street.  We both get pedicures and we now feel like we are on vacation!

Oh I should mention the weather.  It was rather cold yesterday - well not as cold as it was in Nova Scotia or Toronto for that matter but cold for the locals.  It is funny to see so many with big winter coasts and even woolen hats on!  For us we just put on a sweater or light jacket and we are fine.

In the early afternoon we are back at the apartment to relax at bit.  We have been busy and we need to get a few things done here.  First is all the paperwork that is needed for the insurance claim.  They certainly don't make it easy to submit a claim but it is done and we will drop it in the mail tomorrow before we board.

I also wanted to go over my St. Thomas presentation.  You see I have volunteered to do that presentation on the upcoming cruise as we visit St. Thomas on Tuesday and it is good practice for me and it will benefit the passengers.

I am excited too because a friend - John Ripper just messaged me to tell me his son Eric who recently joined Princess as a videographer (now a senior videographer) will be joining the Royal January 26.  Can't wait to meet him and then also excited because John and his wife are hoping to sail with him and us!

Also we heard from friends Ted and Nancy that they just recently booked the South Pacific Cruise we are on for a great price!

I forgot to tell you all that we booked that cruise for a great deal of a $100 a day for an ocean view and then three days later (just before final payment) the price dropped another $150 each and our agent got us a refund.  Way to go Connie.

Okay back to today.

We decided to try a restaurant close by called No Name Tacos.  It had been rated highly in Yelp and we wanted to go somewhere close, not too big, and noisy and it met our needs and then some.

Haven't been down to the beach yet so we take a drive down along the beach and back.  Things are just starting to get going, it is early and this old couple is ready to call it a night.

Back at the apartment around 10 pm we put on our pjs on and watch a bit of Youtube.  I catch up on my blogs and look for my luggage tag holders.  You would think I would of put them in an obvious place!  Nope, can't find them.  Oh well I found the tape and we will just use that.

Tomorrow we have to return the car and then head to the pier.  We are hoping to drop the bags off first.  Great tip if you are renting a car.  Drop your bags off first then return your car and then if you take the shuttle or a taxi you are not worrying about suitcases.

We are at Pier 21 tomorrow as the Caribbean Princess is at Pier 2 - which makes sense since they have Ocean Medallion.

Well off for the night - cheers everyone!  Thanks for following.

Finally we are HERE - Fort Lauderdale

After a long day we are here.  We have to keep reminding ourselves that even though we are tired and hungry and frustrated we know there are so many people who would trade places with us in a heartbeat.

We booked a car for our stay here.  As soon as our flights were changed I went online and modified our booking to reflect one less day (at least we saved some money there).

I love booking with National (although many do the same) when you arrive you just go to where the cars are and pick what you want.

So we picked up a Toyota CRV and loaded the bags in.

We are staying at an Airbnb again.  We booked this place for three nights just north of Sunrise Galleria Mall.

Great location, great apartment.  Also the price was the best.  In fact what we paid for three nights was just over what we paid the hotel in Toronto yesterday.

Here is a link to our Airbnb.  Remember if you ever think you may be booking an Airbnb sign up now with this link and save on your first booking.

It is so nice and comfortable.... and right now that bed is looking very comfortable.  We both agree that we need to rest a bit.

We crash for a couple of hours and then around 3 pm we are off to Sawgrass Mall for some shopping.

The main spot was Target where we bought toiletries for the trip - soap, shampoo, conditioner, sunscreen, bug wipes, and some food for breakfast each morning.

We also hit a few stores and picked up a few items, but we did not spend as much as we would of in past years.  The Canadian dollar is so low that it is just to expensive for us when we convert the price.

A quick meal at PF Changs and we are not surprised how hungry we are, we have not eaten in over 13 hours!

Back at the apartment we watch a bit of Netflix and then fall asleep knowing we can sleep in tomorrow.

I am Ready as I Will Ever Be

Today is the day we leave!  Our bags are packed!

This time we made sure to line our suitcase with plastic bag at the bottom and on the top.  I don't want a repeat of our last flight from Halifax to Sydney, Nova Scotia where I bags sat on the tarmac for hours.  When we got home everything was soaked.  Thankfully all important stuff were in bags but it did ruin a book, some paperwork and all our clothes had to be washed.

So I am not taking any chances this time.

All my items are packed in packing cubes too. I need to be organized this trip as we have numerous time we have to pack up and change cabins.  With cubes I just pack items in it and then place whole thing in the drawer.

It will be  along day.  We purposely booked flights that gave us enough layover between flights (and we have three flights to take) as a cushion because of weather or other delays.

We leave on a 9:50 am flight to Halifax and we don't arrive in Fort Lauderdale until tonight at 9 pm local time.

We have booked a lovely Airbnb for three nights and have a rental car booked too.  The cost of the three nights and the rental car equaled what just under two nights in a hotel would of cost.  So it was a no brainer.  Will post more about the Airbnb later.

Remember if you are interested in booking an Airbnb in the future sign up with this link and save on your first booking, no matter when you book it.

Turn Around Day

As I wake to the thrusters pulling the ship towards the dock I open one eye and glace at the time – 645.  You can never sleep in on turn around day.

After enjoying some breakfast in the cabin (a perk some friends arranged for us because we are staying on) we shower and pull out the cases.  Packing is always easy if you are just moving cabins on the ship.  All clothes on the hangars stay there and the contents of the mini bar get packed into the Princess tote.

The flowers I received a week ago for my birthday still look amazing so we will be moving them to the new cabin.  I am impressed how long they have lasted.

We also throw in a load of wash in the washer on deck 8 (the closest laundromat to our new cabin).  We always like to do at least one load of wash on turn around day so everything gets a good cleaning and we start fresh.  Tokens are dispersed from a machine that you tap your card to the medallion icon.  Each token is $3 and it takes one token for each machine.  We brought our own laundry pods, otherwise you can buy soap with a token in the laundry room.

We let our cabin steward know that our room can be cleaned and we are ready for our stuff to be moved.

Oh I forgot to relay that last night when we got back to the cabin we had a knock at the door.  It was someone from housekeeping and I knew immediately it was Antonio’s friend.

Antonio is a retired executive housekeeper that we met many years ago and have been very close friends with.  Last year we travelled to Portugal to stay with him and his wife for five nights.  He is very special to us and we miss him.  He had messaged me that he knew a few housekeeping supervisors on board and we should look out for them.

Tonight Menino came to introduce himself.  It was so nice to meet him and he promised to take care of us at turnaround with moving our stuff.  Normally we just move our own things but they are insisting they move them for us.

Right now we are siting in Vines enjoying a coffee and waiting for our meeting time for all in transits.  We have been told to be at the Coral Dining room for 10:10 and to make sure we have our in transit cards, our old and new cruise cards and also our passports.

I am anticipating a long in transit process as there are many, so if it goes fast we will be happy.

I just reviewed our bill and everything looks fine.  I added up all the beverages we had including wine, cocktails, coffees, and waters and the total price came to $420.  If we would of gotten the drink package it would of cost us $476 each – a total of $952.  Sure we would of probably drank more with the package but I doubt we would of drank double.  So for us the drink package is not worth it.

Sometimes they throw it in when you book (note there is a cost even if it is thrown in but cheaper than if you buy on board) but we did not have that perk. Remember too if they do have that promo of free sip and sail you can opt out of it and get an on board credit in lieu.

We meet at our designated time of 1010 and within 15 minutes we are directed off the ship.  We go to the lower level of the port building and I am able to get my computer out and do some work.  But within a few minutes they announce we can go thru passport control.  We show our passports to the agent.  They glace at it and look at us and confirm we are the actual person in the photo.  Then we go up the escalator and right on the ship.  Again we have to bing into the only handheld system and then again into the Ocean Medallion system.

In all it took us less than an hour from when we arrived at our designated area to when we were back on board.  One of the fastest in transit experiences we have ever had.  Very impressed!

Once on board we see that when we log onto Princess’ site it is a bit different. We have to re register with Ocean Medallion wifi and we are then on a new page that says because of our loyalty level we are entitled to unlimited wifi for this voyage.  But when we go to apply it is says error.  We go to the internet café to get it dealt with and it seams there is an issue with those of us who were in transit.

A few hours later we are a okay.  Still have some issues logging in but once on it is very fast.  Note you can only log on to one device at a time.

For sail away we head up to the Sun deck and enjoy a beautiful sail away.  Carnival Conquest goes ahead of us then Harmony of the Seas.

love all the art in the cabins

huge tvs

We are hungry so we decide to have an early dinner and head to the Buffet.  Love that salad Bar!  For dessert we indulge in our first milk shakes.  $2.50 each and very good.
We are in a new cabin this leg, E508 and is an obstructed ocean view cabin but the view is quite good right over the life boat.  The air conditioning is working but it is still a little warm for us so we take off the grate that covers the vent and it helps a lot.

There are definitely a lot fewer kids on board but there are still a lot!  The pools are full of little people!  Again I think we will venture to the adults only pool this sailing.

Not sure how much blogging I will do this trip.  I don’t want it to take away from time on my vacation so bear with me if I am not posting regularly but only when there is something to report.

Embarkation Day for The Caribbean Princess

After enjoying a relaxing morning at the hotel we pack up and leave around 11:30.  I once again requested an Uber and the trip was quick (about 15 min) to the port at a cost of $14.  Again if you are heading to Fort Lauderdale you don’t need to limit your hotel location to just around the port or beach.  Save a lot of money by staying further out – we love Plantation and Sawgrass Mall area – price for hotels are much cheaper, they are many that are like resorts and most offer free parking.

Today there are only two ships in port and the beautiful Caribbean is at Pier 2. Again the entrance and drop off/pick up area at Pier 2 is mess and we crawl towards the drop off area.  Attendants direct you but the entire area needs to revamped from scratch.  And today is quiet!

There is one entrance door that everyone enters to go thru security.  The first step is boarding pass and passport check.  Then you quickly go thru a security line where there were, I believe five security screeners.

We had two bottles of champagne and nothing was said.  Although there was a table set up just past security for Liquor where you would go if you had more than your allotted amount, but we were not over.

I should say there are a lot of people here with a large age group.  Lots of families and multi generational families.  Lots of couples of all ages, and many groups of friends travelling.  Very diverse group and much different than the longer ten days or more sailings we are use to.

We are directed to the preferred check in counters where we wait maybe 2 minutes.  So far it has taken only 10 minutes to get to this point.

Oh and no health form to fill out.  I had heard that this had been dropped and I am actually glad.  It seemed to just be a precaution and anyone who was sick often wrote that they were fine.

We are handed a priority boarding card group 6 but the woman at the counter notes how many cruises we have been on and takes the priority boarding card and says I can do better than group 6 for you.  Although it appears that they are boarding already anyways although I do hear from other passengers later that the cabins were not ready until 1 pm as seems to be the norm on various ships and other cruise lines.  Which really seems understandable considering how many cabins they need to turn around.  She welcomes us back (I feel bad that I can’t remember her name, but she was excellent) and heads off to get our room keys.

She returns and says they do not have cruise cards for us. Oh… this has never happened to us before.  We are directed to a waiting area where we meet Jeanne who follows my page is very helpful there with answers to port related questions.  So nice to meet my followers!  (I have a picture with Jeanne but it is on my phone so will put up later) Jeanne explains the situation to us and they are working hard to get cards for us and what looks like a few others (including some crew who are coming for work – like maintenance, Ocean Medallion, etc.).

The first issue is the ship was delayed getting a zero count from the previous cruise.  They were waiting for two people who did not want to go to the in transit meeting spot.  Then when they restarted the system they had difficulty with the machine that produces the cruise cards.  There are about 10 of us waiting for cards.

Some of the people are grumbling around me and getting rather vocal. I try to calm them by saying that it could always be worse.  While checking in the 3 woman beside us from Quebec flew in from Montreal and two of the three had their bags sent to Orlando instead of Fort Lauderdale.  Another woman in the group can’t find her passport.  She is not even sure if she brought it with her or she lost it, or it was stolen.  She drove here the day prior from Georgia and has searched everywhere and can’t find it.  I did let her know she could board with a driver’s license and birth certificate as she is American and is on a closed loop cruise, but not sure if she got on board.  Another reason to always ensure you have all the proper documents before arriving.

Or I say to many here “I am sure there are many who are going to work today that would much prefer to be boarding a ship and waiting”.  The grumblings ease, but they are impatient.

We waited just over an hour for our new cruise cards and I have to say the port staff handled it very well.  I personally would of loved to have seen someone from the ship come and inform us as to what was happening instead of port staff having to relay what the issues were but in all I survived and it was a small bump in the road.  I also always say things happen for a reason and sometimes we don’t always know the reason off hand but there is a reason.

Elkie the Customer Services Director comes to greet us in the port with our cruise cards.  Big hugs for Elkie, it is lovely seeing her again.  We seem to be seeing her on many ships lately, from the Royal to the Ruby to the Royal and now the Caribbean.  She is excellent at her job and she is a joy to see again.

She takes us on board the ship.

I should state now that the queues to board the ship were CRAZY, the worst I have ever seen.  Apparently with the new Ocean Medallion system they are requiring a few things and the first is they currently require two pictures when boarding.  One with the old handheld devices that we are all use to, then you move a few feet over and one with the tablet for the new system.  They need to do it like this for the next three voyages to ensure no errors before they move forward with the new system.

I know it is a pain, and it is going to take people a lot longer to board but it is only temporary and therefore make sure to pack your patience.

While waiting to board I turn to Bernie and comment “where are the bottles of champagne” oh no he left them at the seat in the waiting area!  Elkie gets on her walkie talkie and contacts someone to head down and pick up. We figured they were long gone and scooped up by someone, but a few hours later they were in our cabin!  Thanks again Elkie!

We arrive in our cabin and it feels great to be on board again. A huge Bouquet of flowers greets me.  Bernie sent an arrangement to me for my birthday.   Yes today is my birthday – the cruise was booked because of my birthday.

Being retired allows us to travel more easily during the summer so we are taking advantage of it.

There are no bags yet but we are in no rush.  We wander around the ship a bit and we are surprised to run into a few crew we did not know were on board.  Dominique from Peru is serving in Vines!  Turn the corner and there is Ina a bar server from the Ukraine who we got to know on the Royal, then on the Ruby and now she is here.  Upstairs we run into Food and Beverage Supervisor Juan from Mexico who we first met on his very first contract as a assistant waiter on the Emerald over ten years ago.  What a gift to see so many great people.

of course Bea Damn joined us
this is her first of many cruises

Love the changes to the Caribbean Princess since dry dock last year.  I will be posting and writing about the changes we see so stay tuned.

One thing I love is the numerous sinks at the entrances of the buffet area.  Hand washing is much better than using the sanitizer at killing germs and hope people use the sinks – I know we do.

We end up getting food from the International Café along with a bottle of wine.  The buffet is crazy which is the norm on embarkation day and we really enjoy the sandwich and salad from the International Café.

Muster Drill is at 3:15 and we don’t have far to travel for our station which is in only a few feet away in Churchill Lounge – however it is so stinky with smoke smell we are thankful when they say we can stand outside the lounge.

Love that we don’t have to bring life jackets anymore.
One thing I noticed at the drill was that there were many on their cell phones or even sleeping during the demonstration.  On board other ships this was a definite no no and people were told to put down phones/books or wake up and pay attention.

I went up to Calypso Cove to get my card punched (as the line at the Purser’s desk is way too long – again very common on the first day of any cruise but there are a lot with issues, mainly lost luggage from the airlines).  But Calypso Cove says they no longer punch the cards for lanyards that I have to go to the Purser’s desk.  So back down I go and thankfully I get to queue in the Suite/Elite line and I don’t have to wait long. The purser staff also says they no longer punch the cards but gives me a handy clear pouch I can attach to my lanyard.  I like it and I can reuse it on future cruises.

Speaking of people with lost luggage.  We chat with a family in Vines who have two older sons travelling with them who did not get their luggage.  I say “hopefully the airline with get it to the ship before we sail or to St. Thomas” the woman responds she doubts it as Southwest does not deliver the bags. Oh I am not aware of this maybe someone can confirm.  But I do say to the guys well at least you don’t have to dress up for Formal Night!  They liked that idea.

Just as we are about to leave Dominique and a bunch of the servers in the area come out with a birthday cake and sing Happy Birthday to me.  Wow I am actually tearing up.  Our Princess family means the world to us and it is nice that they feel the same about us.

Harmony of the Seas following us

Back in the cabin we have our bags so we unpack and then we head up to Skywalkers for the Platinum Elite Lounge.  Have to giggle we got the card they deliver to you for this lounge – the front says Platinum Elite lounge but inside where it normally says what the drinks and the food items are it is entirely blank – a small issue with the printing?  No big deal we will survive and we don’t normally go there for the food anyways and you can get any of the drinks.

I am impressed to see someone at the entrance to Skywalkers checking cruise cards to ensure you are allowed to be here.  We take a seat at a table where we can check out the wake view.  Lots of attentive bar staff are here and what blows me away is the server knows both our names – and I did not even show him my card.  He repeats my name every time he comes to deal with us – a nice touch that does not go unnoticed.

The food station is set up on the dance floor where there are two cooks there to assist.  Both are very friendly and welcome us back.  They ensure we are happy and even serve me when I have difficulty picking up the cheese with the thongs.

It is now 6 pm and we decide it is time to head back to the cabin to get ready for our supper.

Flying to Fort Lauderdale and Pre Cruise Hotel

Well getting up early once you have retired is not really that much fun!  Today we had to get up at 3:45 for our 6:20 fight!  Now when we worked we were often at work at 3:45 but we haven't seen that hour since we retired!

And of course we had a hard time sleeping.  It was hot and muggy.  Everyone keeps telling me that this weather is not the norm for Cape Breton.  It is lovely but the humidity is hard to deal with.

Bernie's brother Charlie drives us to Sydney to the airport.  This is a small airport with only two gates.  You clear customs and there is one big room and each end has a gate.

We don't have to wait too long before boarding though and we walk out onto the tarmac and board our Westjet flight.

Oh forgot to mention that the reason I was not able to print out Bernie's boarding pass is that he was tagged for extra screening.  So he had to take his shoes off, he had to get the computer swabbed, he had to go into the scanner, but he managed just fine.

It is only a two hour flight to Toronto and here we have to clear security again and go thru US Customs.  There is a huge line at security but we have Nexus and that saves us a lot of time.  Thankfully we have 2 hours between flights.

BUT - when we get to the security guy at the front of the Nexus line he says to Bernie "oh you can't use the Nexus line as you are tagged for extra screening".   He thankfully directs us to the front of a security line.

Bernie is loosing a bit of patience and I know to tread lightly.  Again the computer gets swabbed, also his hands, he has to go thru the xray thing where you put your hands in the air.  It was  bit of an inconvenience but it is a pain but hey they are just doing their job.

Now we are at the gate and Bernie's name is called to confirm boarding pass and passport.  What they need to see is that he went thru the added security.  They tell him he doesn't have his boarding pass stamped from security.  He says he did go thru it - so back he goes to the security door and gets the stamp on the boarding pass.  All clear.  But you can see he is even more frustrated.

But all is good, he now has his large cup of tea and he sips it and all is good with the world again.

Travelling is never fun - and it has only gotten worse.  I don't know if I feel safer on the planes with all this added security.  All I feel is like cattle and I dread flying days.  Another reason we usually take longer trips so we aren't flying for just a week away.

The flight to Fort Lauderdale is 3 hours.  In total flying time is just over 5 hours from Sydney to Fort Lauderdale.  Big difference from Vancouver.  Plus only a one hour time change!

When we arrive in Florida we notice that terminal one is almost finished - but the old security area is now under construction.

Sadly we had to wait 50 minutes for our bags.  The airport is very busy so I am guessing that is why it is so slow for the bags.

We call up a Uber and we go out to wait.  Pick up is between terminals one and two (note there is another pick up at between terminals 3 and 4) and they have a pull off now where they can easily pick passengers up easily. Cost for an Uber X is $23 - not bad for a Friday afternoon.

I reserved a room at the Sheraton Suites Plantation.  We stayed here once before and really liked it.  The rooms are huge with a separate sitting area and a small kitchen area with fridge, sink, microwave and coffee maker.

I booked this hotel with points but the cost of the room would of been around $150 which is a great price for Fort Lauderdale.  It is situated in a great spot too with lots of stores, restaurants rather close by.  Also Sawgrass Mills Mall is close by too.

Note they are doing some construction nearby so there may be some noise from that.

Price of the room included a Club Class lounge for drinks tonight and then breakfast is included tomorrow.

Right now we are just relaxing for a bit and then we will head out and get some wine and go for a nice supper.

Tomorrow we will take another Uber to the port and board the much anticipated Caribbean Princess.

Footnote:  Remember yesterday's blog and not being able to find Bernie's nice red shorts - well we found them in one of the boxes!  Score!!

Fort Lauderdale – Turn Around Day – Fort Lauderdale

A quick shower when we wake and Bernie takes two loads of clothes to the laundry.  Yes Princess gives us free laundry services but there is something about throwing it all in a washing machine (we bring our own detergent) and getting everything washed/ironed/folded for the next leg.

We are once again moving cabins but we are literally just moving from 411 to 105.  Yes we are all the way forward.

Originally we were to be in the same cabin we had on the first leg but when we saw that it had two upper berths folded up into the side walls.  To save our heads and shoulders we knew we needed to see if we could move cabins for the fourth leg.  I contacted our travel agent 20 days ago to see about moving and 105 was open.  It is not a inside sideways that we would of preferred but it is a quiet regular inside and that works out fine for us.

We move our suitcases and clothes on the hangars very quickly.  Yes Princess will move us if we need them to but we can move it and we don’t have to be anywhere and since they are so busy we gladly move it ourselves.

The new cabin is not completely ready so we just put the bags in the closet and head ashore just prior to the in transit meet time of 9:30.

I haven’t mentioned that today is Sunday and boy is Port Everglades ever busy!!!  The Regal is at Pier 2, and the Crown Princess is at Pier 1. Also Allure, two  Holland America ships, and a Celebrity ship.  CRAZY.

Of course with this many ship in port it impacts the whole city.  It is busy, taxis are busy, custom agents are spread thin and it is really not something we enjoy.

Normally we stay on board and just do in transit but we have things to do ashore.

We get in the queue for customs and it is long but moving and before it snakes back and forth we are able to go into the Global Entry line and we are thru within 2 minutes.

Once at the pier side we were going to take a taxi but the queues were very long and then we saw the port shuttle, which is complimentary.  This is here to move people who parked at Pier 2 which we left from.  We get on and then get off at Pier 2 and just walk in from there.

It is very hot and humid (there was a quick shower first thing this am).

We walk to Publix and stock up on a few items (toothpaste, shampoo, cough drops for a crew member, and another essential oil for the cabin).

We tried to get our nails done but they don’t open till later today and when we do stop in later they are busy and ask us to come back in an hour but that won’t work for us.

For lunch we went to the Boatyard and enjoyed a lovely drink and meal.  We needed this bit of peace as the whole day just felt crazy.

Now what to do?  We are just outside Wallgreens and another couple from our ship need to get back to pier 21 too. Yes you could walk as there are sidewalks but it is a long distance and would take about a half hour at least.

Bernie flags down a taxi and he pulls into Wallgreens and picks all four of us up.  I noticed that the taxi had not turned on the meter and mentioned it to him, he said he had (but he clearly had not).  I know there is a sign on the back seat saying if the meter is not on call this number and get the ride for free so we knew we were covered.

When he arrives at Pier 21 he says it is $9 which is what I would expect so we gladly pay.  He then says it is an added $10 and we say why and he says because I picked you up at Port Everglads (it is a minimal fee of $10 if picked up at the pier or airport) but I said you picked us at Wallgreens and last I looked the ships don’t dock at Wallgreens. We stood our ground and paid him and left.  And they wonder why we don’t like taxis and embrace Uber.  Note most times it is not an issue with taxis and most are fair.

Third Cruise on Royal Princess

As I wake after a very restless night.  For some reason I just couldn’t sleep.  I was awake until 5 am!

When I do wake Bernie has already gotten the wash in and I grudgingly get up and pull out the bags.  We need to change cabins today.  We don’t mind changing cabins, it is easy.  It allows us to pack up items we do not need and to clean everything and organize again.

We are in a sideways inside midship.  Wow the storage in here is amazing.  We were in a deluxe Balcony and I find those cabins just don’t have enough storage.  This one has an extra bank of drawers, shelves on the side of the desk, an extra cupboard with three shelves!

Check out the cabins video I did that has all cabin types on the Royal/Regal/Majestic

In transit passengers (meaning those that are staying on for the next leg) for which there are almost 400 of us, are told to meet in the Princess Theater at 9:30.  Disembarkation is running ahead of schedule and they make announcements that everyone should go to their lounge early.

Bernie has gone off to get a haircut, a manicure, pick up some wine and some items we have run out of – sunscreen, conditioner, and some sleep aid for me.  I am staying on as I really need to rest and I would be way to grumpy.

All us in transits head off the ship, going off the ship with our old car.  In the terminal we are taken downstairs in the terminal and told to take a seat.

While waiting they inform us that it is taking a bit longer due to a medical emergency, and they are waiting for an ambulance.

Of course the people in the lounge start to grumble and complain that they disembarked them already last night!  I mention that there must be a new patient as they would not say that unless it is true.

Later I did find out that one of the in transit passengers was trying to head to the lounge and called 911 on board and said their spouse was not breathing.  Medical attended right away and the patient was taken away in an ambulance.  We wish them well.

Once the ship has received the zero count a custom agent is there and all we do is open up our passport to our photo page and show the agent and walk right by. Back up the elevator and right on board.  In all the whole process took about an hour.

Take note that they have free wifi in the terminal so it was easy to update my phone and also install an app from CBC Olympics so we can follow the results of the Olympics while on board.

Once back on board I head straight to the new cabin and unpack and fold everything and get thing straightened out.  Bernie walks in the door soon after.

I still need a nap so Bernie leaves and I crawl into bed.  I manage to sleep for a short while (about an hour) until the announcement comes on for Muster.

We meet up with Roy and Sandra who have just gotten on for 20 days in Vines.

Stefan our wonderful server in Vines

So nice to see them again.

Tonight we already know we need to have an early night.  We head upstairs for dinner in the Horizon Court.  They had Pho soup!  You just let them know what you want in it and they prepare it for you and deliver it to you too.  So yummy.
We then attend the Welcome Aboard Show where Matt hosts and wow there are 800 Canadians! The comedian A.J. Smith does a segment and he is hilarious.

met up with Helga who follows my blog

After the show we stop in the Essence Boutique to buy some cologne for a friend.  If you buy $100 in the shops the first three days you get an extra 10% off, also elites get an additional 10%.  Should note too that the cologne we bought was charged at the wrong price. I thought the total price was high and looked at the bill when we left and yup the scan put in the wrong price than what was on the tag.  We returned to the store and the staff corrected it immediately - of course these things can happen but check your bills

It has been a difficult day, with being so tired, but Princess makes it effortless.
