We wanted to explore a bit of the area. We started off just driving down the street a short distance to the small village of Margaretsville.
Margaretsville is name is from Margaret. She was the daughter of Bishop Inglis, the first Anglican Bishop of Nova Scotia. When they married her father gave them an estate on the shore which included all the area around where present day Margaretsville.
A cute lighthouse and a lighthouse keeper's cottage. The cottage is up for sale. We looked it up and for the sum of $150,000 you can buy it. Now it is in a prime location right on the water. However it is a small property and you have home all around you. The place is tiny! 600 square feet, one bedroom. It needs a lot of work. When we peeked inside (no one is there - it is obviously a summer cottage for someone) it is interesting. The taps in the kitchen look like they are coming from directly outside. The washroom is right beside the kitchen and there is NO door! Plus you have a lot of tourist that come down and look at the lighthouse which is right beside you.
The wharf is there and the beach is very nice too. There are some local fishermen selling their catch.
We drive to a few small villages and enjoy the views.
We visited Port George.
Port Lorne.
The homes all around are so pretty. You know there is so much history and I just keep wondering if only these walls could talk.
People are super friendly. We saw a guy on his tracker in his field and he waved as we drove past. These are the back roads and not much traffic here.
We ever encounter a peacock crossing the street.
Then a few kilometres away we spot a grosse with her babies crossing.
We head inland to Lawrencetown and the old highway. We make a few stops and fresh produce stands. Love all the local crafts.
Across the street is a cute pottery place and the sign on the door says they are open but she is in the back. We walk in, and admire the pieces. I choose a piece but the owner is no where to be found. I holler out hello but no answer. She must be in her house next door but no one comes. We put the bowl back and leave. Guess it wasn't meant to be.
We are a bit hungry and Bernie wants to try this place that had great reviews. It is called Pascalice's Bistro You can find them on Facebook here.
We order a schnitzel that is served on a potato pancake. It is huge, so I am glad we are sharing. It is a beautiful little bistro run by the couple Pascal and Alice. One from Sweden, one from Canada. She is also a talented painter and the wall is studded with her artwork.
Because of Covid they can only do takeout. We take the food and head to the Canadian Military Aviation Museum. Greenwood has a huge airforce base. The lawn is studded with these planes and we take a seat on the bench and enjoy our meal. Sadly the museum is closed, because of Covid, but we did really enjoy the planes.
I need to buy some bread for tomorrow and Bernie suggest going back to the place where he got the cake Marie and Guy's French pastry shop. Because it is late in the day the bread selection was minimal but I got a lovely loaf and oh what do I see in the display but pain au chocolate pastries! Well that would be damn good tomorrow morning. They also had tons of other things that I so wanted but resisted. I also go the chance to speak French with Marie.
Here is our routing for the day.
Back to the Airbnb for a bit where we sit out on the back deck admiring the view. That just doesn't get boring. We enjoy a drink and chat and chat and just enjoy being together.
For dinner we are back to Kingston to the Oak and Barrel Pub. My friend Jim David gave us some recommendations of places to try and when we arrived I have to say I was a bit, WHAT as it's looks are deceiving.
But we took a seat on the patio and the server was so kind. I ordered the fish tacos and Bernie got a quesadilla with sweet potato fries. Everything was so darn good. I love that the fish in the fish tacos was not battered at all or deep fried. Instead it was cut into chunks and sauted. And their hot sauce is homemade. Those sweet potato friess were the standard kind, but the dipping sauce was a curry garlic. Again so darn good.
Back at the amazing view on our back deck with a glass of wine, some nice tunes and with my love.
I read through my birthday wishes on Facebook to Bernie and we are touched by all the amazing people in our lives.
