Bernie and I have been talking about redoing our kitchen for such a long time. We have been watching shows, tearing out pages from magazines, checking out stores and commenting on friend's kitchen since the day we moved into our apartment.
We started setting things up last fall, we got quotes, we shopped around we knew what we wanted.
The beging of March we put the order in for the cabinets, hey how come no one told me cupboards are so expensive. Well they are and trust me we have good taste. I guess there is no recession when it comes to trades and reno companies because trying to get them to come to our home to take measurements is like pulling teeth. And when they do come we never see a quote!
So order has gone in for the cupboards and we are excited, guess we can't back out now.
Our friend Trevor comes over one Saturday to help Bernie remove the old cupboards and he takes all of them for his daughter's kitchen, love recycling!
The kitchen looks so bare! absolutely nothing in it except fridge and stove. We have all the foo and dishes we need in the laundry room along with a microwave. The dishes are getting done in the main bathroom. You don't realize how hard it is to rinse dishes until you try to rinse them in a small sink. Thankfully the weather is nice and we have the barbecue.
Frustrations rise when there is a death in the family and our world is torn upside down.
Our drywall guy has not shown up, and no phone call. In fact he ends up being five days late and costs us more than the verbal quote he gave us. Lesson learned, get a quote, demand a quote and get it written down what you want done. After the work was done we were happy but a sour taste in our mouth.
Floor is currently ceramics but it is cold on our feet! It is cracked in areas and we can't wait to get our engineered hard wood in, but first we have to get the ceramic tiles up. Best left to the professionals. We hired Mc Donalds flooring from Maple Ridge to install and remove the old stuff. So after a full day the tiles are up.
Dust is everywhere, we taste it in our mouth when we sleep and yes we had plastic up around all doors and even closed the doors too.
I keep telling myself, isn't this fun, and I guess it is fun but stressful and I can't wait for it to be over and to start cooking again.
